Suitable For
Colon Support
The colon or large intestine is 6 feet long, 3-3 inches in diameter.
The colon absorbs water and minerals forming the stool for elimination. The stool will carry out the remains of the digested food along with any toxins. It is full of 60 varieties of bacteria, importantly the bacillus coli and acidophilus that maintains the pH of the colon, synthesise some nutrients from food such as folic acid, vitamin K and some B vitamins and by their presence in large numbers prevent the proliferation of the harmful bacteria.
Ingestion of food to elimination takes between 12-24 hours in a healthy colon and normal bowel movements occur 2-3 times a day. Healthy bowel elimination will have no offensive odour and the stool is properly formed and easy to pass. Infrequent bowel movements may be due to lack of water intake or an imbalance in the gut flora such as the fungal overgrowth of candida. This may result in toxins from pathogens (fungi, bacteria or parasites) or by -products from undigested food remaining in the colon or being reabsorbed.
Fibre plays a vital role in a healthy intestine. It cannot be digested and therefore “bulks “ the stool. It can also promote the health of good bacteria and slow the absorption of sugars. There are two types of fibre.
1) Soluble fibre- this dissolves into a gel like consistency that helps slow digestion, maintaining that full feeling. It is found in nuts and some vegetables and fruits.
2) Insoluble fibre that does not dissolve at all and adds bulk to the stools such carrots and green leafy vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain both soluble and insoluble fibre
The Recommended daily allowance for fibre is 18gm a day
Metabolics Colon Support is a combination of soluble and insoluble fibre, bentonite clay and probiotics (colon friendly bacteria), designed to help bulking matter in the intestines and to aid the colon flora.
This supplement contains
- Psyllium Husks are the seed husks of the Plantago ovate plant. This has both soluble and insoluble fibre. They are hygroscopic (absorb water) and can, therefore, become mucilaginous, meaning they have sticky, glue like properties. They have both soluble and insoluble fibre content. It is gentle and nonabrasive
- Bentonite clay or montmorillonite is composed of volcanic ash which produces an electrical charge when hydrated. When in contact with fluid the electrical components change giving it the ability to absorb toxins
- lnulin is a soluble dietary fibre from chicory root. It is a naturally occurring oligosaccharide ( a chain of simple sugars) belonging to the carbohydrate group fructans. It is a prebiotic. That means it provides a medium for the growth of the good bacteria in the colon
- Cellulose is an insoluble fibre found in the cell walls of plants. Because it is not digested it adds a non abrasive bulking agent
- Organic Oatbran contains both soluble and insoluble fibre. The soluble fibre in oat bran is known as beta glucan. Not only does this increase bulk but in sufficient amounts (3gm a day) has cholesterol lowering effects
- Comboccillus which is a blend of those important good bacteria that should be inhabiting the colon, namely the acidophilus and bacillus coli.
