What is Conjugated Linoleic Acid (CLA)?
Conjugated Linoleic Acid is an omega-6 fatty acid and is actually a family of 28 isomers of linoleic acids. An isomer is a compound that has the same molecular formula but different structural formula.
CLA is found naturally in meat and dairy, particularly from grass-fed animals, and the linoleic acid (LA) comes from the grass and grains eaten by the animal. Grass fed animals can produce 300-500 % more CLA than those fed half hay and half grains.
Kangaroo meat has the highest concentration of CLA, but food products from grass fed ruminants, such as sheep and cows are also good sources.
It is also found in some plant seed oils such as Safflower and Sunflower.
