Metabolics Flax Seed Oil is obtained from organically grown crushed flax seeds. Flax seed oil is a naturally rich source of the Omega 3 fatty acid, ALA (Alpha Linolenic Acid).
Alpha Linolenic Acid contributes to the maintainance of normal blood cholesterol levels, the beneficial effect being obtained with a daily intake of 2gm of ALA.
Human conversion of ALA to EPA and DHA is slow. About 15% ALA converts to EPA and 5% to DHA. Also a deficiency of any of the vitamin and mineral cofactors, that is B3, B6, Zinc and Magnesium that are required by Elongase and Delta 6 desaturase enzymes may inhibit conversion to EPA and DHA. Loss of Delta 6 desaturase activity occurs during aging and EPA and DHA are taken up more rapidly into cell membranes from fish oil sources.
However Flax Seed Oil provides a high source of ALA as an alternative to fish oil.
Not suitable for vegetarians.
